FS: Tell us a little bit about your position with the Town of Fishers

SF: I manage the Town budget as well as Chair the Environmental Committee

FS: How do you currently use FormSpring:

SF: We use it for a variety of things but these are the big ones to-date

Website form for people who are interested in doing business with the town

Online jobs application

Permit for parks

Town surveys

FS: How has FormSpring solved a business/organizational issue:

SF: It has improved our operations in two ways:

1) Improve customer service – We don’t have to have residents download forms, print them out, and send them in. They can now just fill out forms online and get the process started right away.
2) Do things more effectively. The old way we had to Process paper forms, store them, etc. With FormSpring it is more effective and is a cost savings for us. It also has a side effect of being a good environmental impact as we use less paper now.

FS: Did you look at any other solutions (Custom Dev, Other SaaS etc):

SF: When John told me about it we thought is was worth the cost as opposed to other enterprise software. It really is a small tool that has a major impact

FS: What do you like best about the product?

SF: Uses are spread around, it allows everyone from interns, parks department etc to use the tool…and it is really easy to use.

FS: What features do you find most helpful?

SF: The ability to store that data and data manipulation. If we have a job posting and we have 300 applicants. We can sort through the requirements of the job. For example, a minimum of a 4-year degree, we can sort out those who do not qualify in matter of minutes as opposed to paper-based solution.

FS: Was it hard to justify using the application to the Town?

SF: With the low dollar amount there was no formal process we had to go through. It just made sense to go with it.

FS: Any specific features you would like to see?

SF: We would like to see integration with data management system like Onbase.

FS: Any other tips/tricks/words of wisdom you would like to share with others users/readers?

Once you understand the tool, you can understand where to apply it. Think ahead and look at the processes that you do on a given day to make this a tool to make you more efficient. We use more forms than any other industry — outside healthcare, we are a target rich environment.Recent Posts:

You can read the full article over at Internet Retailer but below are some interesting excerpts that highlight the unique way in which Angie’s List uses our web form solution.

How FormSpring was used during the planned maintenance of the Angie’s List site:

When visitors came to AngiesList.com during that downtime period, they were greeted by two messages: One was a standard notification that said the site was temporarily down for maintenance and apologized for any inconvenience; the other offered a promotional code to motivate visitors who were not already subscribers to leave contact information. To accept the promotional code, visitors clicked a button that would take them to a form hosted by FormSpring to enter their name and e-mail address.

The success of their FormSpring form

When we use FormSpring to capture names and send promotional codes, we get conversion rates close to what we get when our site is entirely live, Rush says. He adds that Angie’s List may eventually set up the application so that it automatically transfers files of new customers to the ExactTarget e-mail system automatically e-mails the promotional codes. Angie’s List will also use the application, which is hosted on FormSpring’s web servers in a software-as-a-service environment, for shorter, ongoing routine maintenance periods and to support internal I.T. operations, Rush says.

Vontoo: We need to create forms on the fly and collect data quickly. We are able to use our design elements without having to bother development teams. It also gives us flexibility because it is very easy to use and allows us to just “plug and play”.

FS: Did you look at any other solutions (Custom Dev, Other SaaS etc.)?

Vontoo: We have in-house developers and capabilities but FormSpring allows me to not have to bother our staff and allows Marketing to create the forms we need and implement them right away.

FS: What do you like best about the product?

Vontoo: Drag and drop form building and the ability to “skin” our forms using Style Templates. The templates allow us to consistently display our brand on any form we use.

FS: What features do you find most helpful?

Vontoo: We like the Smart Routing as well as Pre-populating form fields. Using the Pre-Populating Form Fields we are able to send data from one form to another very easily.

FS: What improvements to FormSpring would you like to see?

Vontoo: Easy way to integrate with other resources (Salesforce, Email, etc.)

FS: Any other tips/tricks/words of wisdom you would like to share with others users/readers?

Vontoo: As a marketer you want to have all the tools at your fingertips – FormSpring is a tool in my toolbox. As I learn about more uses, the more I can use it. It is a valuable resource that serves its purpose.

He thought Coburn Place could use our services to he;p manage some of their online donations and event registrations. We teamed up with the Coburn Place and helped them get started with their largest fundraising event – Blue Breakfast. Below is how they used FormSpring and how they anticipate using it in the future for online fundraising and more!

Organization: Coburn Place

Website: www.coburnplace.org

FS: Tell us a little bit about your business, who is your target market, what makes you different, etc.?

CP: Our Mission is: Coburn Place opens a door through which women and children fleeing domestic violence can find safe haven. Coburn Place transforms battered lives by healing painful emotions, teaching valuable life skills, and fostering financial independence and long-term self-sufficiency.

FS: How do you currently use FormSpring:

CP: We used it to sell tickets to our event the Blue Breakfast as well as gathering additional online donations. Blue Breakfast is held at the Colts Complex and has speakers from Coburn Place as well as Coach Caldwell. We had a silent auction with all proceeds going back to Coburn Place.

FS: Any other ways you might use it?

CP: We would like to use it for online donations on our site. We are also sending a survey out to all attendees after the event to get feedback on the Blue Breakfast

FS: How has FormSpring solved a business/organizational issue?

CP: Last year was first year for event and we had no idea of how to sell tickets online. FormSpring helped get us online and sell tickets without having to get an expensive solution. Something we could do quickly.

FS: What do you like best about the product?

CP: The best part of it is that it looks like part of your website as opposed to other solutions where you have to leave the site to make a payment/donation people sometimes don’t trust leaving your site. Also we think it is cool to customize it, as well as we can get any information that we need to gather very quickly.

FS: What features do you find most helpful?

CP: We like the Google Payment Integration. We also like being able to send notifications once someone submits the form. We also like that the Chair of the Event can receive email notifications as well, making it easy for her to keep updated on the event.

FS: What improvements to FormSpring would you like to see?

CP: When we embed the form on our site even though the form is secure it does not show up as a secure page ( show a little padlock on the address bar). (FS Note: If you set up your form with the security settings your form is secure. The only way to get it to appear as a secure page using the embed option on your site is to embed it on a secure page. You can contact support to learn more)

FS: Tell us a little bit about your business, who is your target market, what makes you different, etc.?

The Bed and Breakfast Map is a searchable map-based directory of over 20,000 B&Bs and Guesthouses in the UK. The use of Google map makes it easy and fun for visitors to quickly find Bed and Breakfast Accommodation in every corner of the UK (i.e England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man). In addition to the website catering for visitors looking for B&B accommodation, The Bed and Breakfast Map also offers simple websites and enhanced listings on the Map for B&B owners. The Bed and Breakfast Map aims to become THE PLACE to search for Bed and Breakfast Accommodation in the UK.

FS: How did you hear about FormSpring?

Initially I found FormSpring through Google AdWords several years ago and have been using the service ever since.

FS: How do you currently use FormSpring?

The Bed and Breakfast Map uses FormSpring forms for many purposes, including:

To Recommend the Bed and Breakfast Map to a Friend

Feedback Forms

Run UK’s Hidden Holiday Gem Competition

Add new B&B listings

Change Marker Pin Coordinates

Process PayPal Payments

Contact Forms

FS: Any other ways you might use it?

We might integrate a form in a marketing email in the future.

FS: How has FormSpring solved a business/organizational issue?

Yes… FormSpring has enabled us to add forms quickly and cheaply to the website, which otherwise would have been a time consuming and costly exercise. FormSpring also enables B&B owners to easily list their B&B on the site. In addition, but just as importantly for us, the submitted information is stored in a database for us to access at any time from anywhere!

FS: What do you like best about the product?

FormSpring is quick and easy to use. Advanced features such as PayPal Integration and Auto Email Replies help our give our website a very professional and slick image. FormSpring definitely enhances our business.

FS: What features do you find most helpful?

Easy build and database are the most useful elements to us.

FS: What improvements to FormSpring would you like to see?

I think the CSS of the forms can be improved. A choice of styles would be a good feature. Or even HTML download without any divs or CSS..

FS: Any other tips/tricks/words of wisdom you would like to share with others users/readers?

Forms can be a very useful element to any online business and the more professional they are the better it makes your business look!

Victor Valley College is one of those educational organizations. Victor Valley College is a 2 year higher educational institution located in California, they are using FormSpring throughout all aspects of their school. I had the fortune of hearing how they are using the product from Justin Gatewood, take a read below and hopefully their uses may conjure up some ideas on how your organization can use FormSpring.

Organization:Victor Valley College

Website: http://www.vvc.edu

FS: Tell us a little bit about your organization:

We are a 2-year degree-granting (Associates Degrees), accredited higher education institution in Southern California. Our primary target market(s) is/are the local high school graduates (the bulk of our full-time students), and then the entire community. We are different than the traditional 4-year institution because our enrollment fees are dramatically lower ($400+/unit at the 4-year level – $20/unit at our level), yet our units are FULLY transferable to the 4-year state universities, AND we offer vocational training and non-credit, fee-based special interest classes in addition to the full credit courses.

FS: How did you hear about FormSpring?

I did a web search for form processing stuff on Google.

FS: How do you currently use FormSpring?

We use FormSpring as follows:

Class schedule request forms

Student newspaper requests

Student/tutor referrals

Online Writing Tutor submissions/student receives email help back from a live person about their research paper

Technology training evaluations

Online class registration (using SSL so that they can submit their Credit Card info. to pay for the classes)

Football team/program feedback

Prospective athlete submission forms

Request forms for our online Work Order processing system

Monthly award nomination (All area schools can submit a teacher “hero” for an award program started by one of our Academic Deans)

Student Survey

Online orientation form (Tied to a video where students can watch an online video and submit a form which has allowed the instructor to reduce the amount of “in-person” orientations to almost none)

Student organization and club membership signup

Password sign up for online library research databases

RSVP’s for registrations to limited attendance events

Anonymous campus Health and Safety concern form

FS: Any other ways you might use it?

We are preparing to use it for new employees in our district as a resource for requesting user accounts and password to most of our online/networked systems (password protected online form). Also with the new logic that has been added recently, we’re planning on setting up an “online general interest” form, where a prospective student or member of the public simply fills out the online form, based on their interests, and then, based on their selections, the form data is automatically routed to that area expert for a response (still planning this out, but it should be very helpful)

FS: How has FormSpring solved a business/organizational issue?

FormSpring has solved two major issues for us.

Our web server (at the time, a FreeBSD Linux, version 4.3 STABLE build running Apache/Tomcat) had failed a security vulnerability audit which was commissioned by our statewide Chancellor’s Office, so I began looking for ways to “close the security holes”, and, by migrating to an off-site form processing system like FormSpring, VOILA!, one problem was solved.

The ability to share the data with other groups at the college (through the “Share Data” URL feature) is invaluable. No more building reports from form data in Microsoft Excel or Word, I can just email them the URL for that form’s “Share Data” function, and they can do the rest themselves (without compromising the security or functionality of either the online form or the submitted data).

FS: What do you like best about the product?

Everything. I have yet to find something I didn’t like, and you keep adding more features to how I can manipulate and collect data, so, thank you very much!

FS: What features do you find most helpful?

The visual form builder is so easy. You don’t have to know ANYTHING (I mean it, not a thing) to use it. I’ve been building CGI forms since 1995-96, so I’m fairly familiar with how to do that, but after seeing your interface, forget that! I’m only using your form builder from now on.

FS: What improvements to FormSpring would you like to see?

The improvements that I wanted for the past year or so (and had posted about on the forums) have already been included in your wonderful product, so, I’ll have to give that some more thought.

FS: Any specific features you would like to see?

I would like to have the ability to automatically attach a file (that I have previously uploaded), and include it with the confirmation email message (for those online forms where a user is requesting a specific document). This would be equally helpful if logic could be added to this feature (so you could have a list of files, for example, in my case, a list of documents from our Admissions Office), and a site visitor could fill in an online form, select a specific document from a drop-down list, check box list, etc., and, based on that selection, the confirmation message that they would receive would have that document (which was previously uploaded and associated with that selection) as a file attachment.

FS: Any other tips/tricks/words of wisdom you would like to share with others users/readers?

Use it, use it, use it. The more you use it, the more you’ll grow to love the interface, the ease of form building and embedding the scripts on your own website so that the form “melts” into your design seamlessly. Use the re-direct URLs and the confirmation email messages (invaluable and very professional) to interact with the submitters.Recent Posts:

So we find it amazing when we run across a customer like Crumbs and Doilies, a UK-based cupcake company, and see just how far they have integrated FormSpring forms into their business. They are using every trick in the playbook to create powerful online forms that truly help them manage and operate their business.

Below is a great story on how Crumbs and Doilies uses FormSpring. We appreciate them sharing their tale and hopefully giving you some ideas on how you can incorporate web forms deeper into your business.

Company: Crumbs and Doilies

Web: www.crumbsanddoilies.co.uk

FS: Tell us a little bit about your business, who is your target market, what makes you different, etc.?

Crumbs and Doilies is a small, London-based cupcake company. We bake for bespoke orders during the week and at weekends, which we take via our website, and also run a market stall every Saturday in Chelsea, South West London. We pride ourselves on making the best-tasting and the best-looking cupcakes we can.

FS: How did you hear about FormSpring?

CD: Once our website had been up for a few months we found we were getting a lot of emails that didn’t give us quite as much information about our customers’ needs as they might, so we started investigating the possibility of building forms to prompt clients into giving us the information we needed (name, date of order, delivery postcode etc). Possessing and embarrassingly limited knowledge of HTML and CSS I quickly realized that an online form provider offering the ability to create and implement forms quickly and easily would be an ideal solution. I tried Formspring’s trial mode and really liked the ease of use, design of the site and flexibility on offer, so signed up for a proper account. I also really liked the logo…

FS: How do you currently use FormSpring?

CD: We use FormSpring in quite a few ways. We have a couple of contact forms on the site (one for standard orders and another for larger orders such as weddings) which prompt customers to give us the specific information we need to best answer their questions prior to any possible order.

Because we get incredibly busy and because our cupcakes can only be delivered within a certain area (central and SW London), we can’t take everyone’s order – for this reason we have an order form set up (using FormSpring) and linked to Paypal (or Google Checkout) but on a page not accessible via the main site. Once we’ve answered a customer’s questions and/or are ready to book their order in we just need to give them a link to that page and they can place and pay for their order, including adding extra options to their cupcakes like purchasing stands, adding piping and so on. We use smart routing and custom notifications to send out a confirmation email based specific to the customer’s order, while the order information is relayed to several of our email addresses in different forms depending on the recipient (kitchen, accounts etc).

We also use FormSpring’s file attachment option on a couple of the forms – when we were looking to hire new helpers in the kitchen for example we set up a form so they could tell us a bit about themselves, why they’d like to work with us, and attach any images of their baking, CVs etc. Similarly, our wedding inquiry form allows people to upload useful pictures, colour samples, moodboards and so on, which come straight through to us along with their inquiry.

We use FormSpring forms elsewhere on the site too – for example we run a monthly Name the Cupcake competition (www.crumbsanddoilies.co.uk/competition) using a simple form where people give us their name, email address and competition entry. There’s a box to tick or untick depending on whether people would like to subscribe to our mailing list, and the form is linked to an emailing system which can subscribe them if they’d like to join up.

One other use of FormSpring on the site is as a ‘quote calculator’ for larger orders. By selecting a few options (number of guests, size/s of cupcakes, stand hire etc) the form generates an approximate total for the customer to help them with planning. The form is set up as standard but before pasting the HTML into our site we remove the ’submit’ button, meaning people can see the total without submitting what would be fairly useless information to us.

All the FormSpring forms we use are integrated into our site using Javascript (HTML in the case of the quotation form) – Javascript has proved really useful because it allows us to maintain ‘live’ control of the forms; if there’s a problem, or if we need to change the form in any way, we can do it from our Formspring account and it updates on the website without us having to re-upload or edit the webpage.

FS: Any other ways you might use it?

We’re really happy with the ways we use FormSpring at the moment, though we may introduce a few new forms in the future, such as polls for favourite flavours etc.

FS: How has FormSpring solved a business/organizational issue?

CD: By effectively prompting customers to provide essential pieces of information all the way through the order process, from first contact to placing the final order, FormSpring’s forms make our lives much easier. The integration of forms with Paypal and Google Checkout offers us a secure, easy way to process people’s orders. The ability to customize notification emails makes it easy for us to get the right information (order details for the kitchen, a separate email to another address to act as a back-up of each month’s orders etc), and the ability to customize and route customer response emails via Smart Routing makes it easy for us to convey the right information to the customer based on their needs and/or type of order.

What do you like best about the product?

CD: We really like the ease of use, the flexibility and the simple integration options. Also, by allowing complete customization of email notifications, post-submission URL routing and so on, FormSpring forms allow us to gather the information we need easily and professionally without ever appearing standardized or impersonal to our customers.

FS: What features do you find most helpful?

CD: Smart Routing is a really useful feature, especially for more complicated orders – for example this Halloween we ran a special offer allowing customers to order cupcakes for collection from one of two locations or delivery within central/SW London. Using Smart Routing we were able to automatically send each customer a personalized confirmation email with instructions on where/when to collect, or when to expect their delivery. Payment integration is also incredibly useful, as is the ease of use and integration options (Javascript, HTML and so on) mentioned above. We also find it really useful to have a stored record of each submission – so for example at Halloween we were able to close the form, download all the submissions and put them into a spreadsheet, which we could then use to plan our delivery routes, print out cards for each order and so on.

FS: What improvements to FormSpring would you like to see?

CD: Having added Google and other payment options is a great step forward, and perhaps (if possible) it’d be good to enable slightly closer integration, allowing for more tracking of payments, or the ability to hold a submission until payment has been made. It would also be great to see what could be done via integration with other online services such as Google Maps.

FS: Any other tips/tricks/words of wisdom you would like to share with others users/readers?

CD: I don’t know if we’d be a great source of tips and tricks – the FormSpring Help and Forum sections contain pretty much everything one could hope to know… I think the main thing is to play around with the different routing and conditional logic options to see what you can come up with. It’s fun (in a nerdy kinda way) and you might well stumble on an idea that would make running your business (or whatever you use the forms for) way easier.Recent Posts:

FS: Tell us a little bit about how you use FormSpring?

SO: I use FS to gather student information at the beginning of semester. I also use various forms to gather feedback etc from my course blog. As well, I am a registrar for several teacher oriented conferences. I use forms to gather and manage registration data for participants.

FS: How did you hear about FormSpring?

SO: I was growing frustrated by the limitations of the free FormMail script and the associated levels of spam I received. I did a search on the web for alternatives and came across FS.

FS: How has FormSpring solved a business/organizational issue?

SO: Provides a quick and simple way to build and maintain forms as well as offering an online backup of data. I like also being able to share a URL with conference colleagues where they can check out the data re: various conferences.

FS: What do you like best about the product?

SO: Simple, intuitive, drag and drop. Hard to go wrong. No spam so far!

FS: What features do you find most helpful?

SO: I like the multi-branching feature of the forms (helps eliminate mistakes and overlooked requests) as well as the customizing of auto emails to submitters. The emails I receive also are a great way for me to stay on top of the submissions.

FS: What improvements to FormSpring would you like to see?

SO: I would like to see more logic capabilities build into forms – ie. ways to check for duplicate choices when I’ve asked people to select two different options – first and second. Or to only accept 10 digits in a phone number, etc. Also, how about offering some formatting capabilities – I hate it when people submit info in ALL CAPS or all lower case. Could FS not have the ability to convert this to a requested style before forwarding it on to me or posting it in the database? When building a long form, it can become tedious scrolling through it all. It would be great to be able to temporarily hide certain parts of a form. I would also like it to be simpler to add a custom graphic banner without having to go in and alter the HTML.Recent Posts:
